WHY WE’RE DOING THIS

The Land has been a healing place for me for over 30 years. It’s been the place where I had at least one week a year to be fully in my body and in the company of women and girls… where I felt safe enough to be vulnerable in ever deepening ways. It’s where I learned that, until I’d been there, I always walked in fear. It’s where I learned to walk without fear. And that taught me to walk differently, to be stronger in so many ways, everywhere I go out in the world (Area 51!).

I was devastated that we lost the festival and with it, The Land. So WWTLC starting this new thing has lifted my heart. I’ve gotten to be on The Land, just a little, all, but one year since fest ended. Even one day for a few hours was meaningful. I joke that I just needed to touch the hem of her garment. But I really do mean it. It has been healing. And getting to be on The Land in 2019 with gatherings of women and girls… life changing. Life affirming. I hate to be so dramatic. But that’s real for me.

We need to make The Land Payment. We can’t hold events on The Land, if we don’t pay for it. I really did imagine that as many of us love The Land, that we could pay this huge amount of money in just a year. Like if all of us who didn’t want fest to end, bought just one more ticket… that’s no small change I know. But that’s how much having The Land means to me. That’s how much not letting the misogyny win has meant to me. This is literally saving my life. (Again with the real for me drama!)
